Saints and Scripture Sunday
Matthew 11:28-30

“Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
I try to keep my whining to a minimum here in a very public forum, but lately, I’m just worn out. I’m physically and mentally exhausted. Nothing is wrong at home, but I feel like my plate is full to the point of running over.
The grown ups are having career discussions, while I’m still trying to figure out how to raise a teenager without losing my mind. My four year old thinks she’s fourteen, and the boys are practicing for their future home in the fraternity house by staying up until midnight every night. Going to work used to be a bit of an escape, but as of late, everyone waits until the sun goes down, then we get a mad rush at 10 pm. To add to the constant activity in my brain, a dear friend of mine was diagnosed with some bizarre debilitating illness. Enough, already!
I needed to read the Scripture above, to remind me to give all of this up. Many times, I’m so busy chasing my tail, I forget that Jesus knows every burden I have. With his help, I’ll be able to make it through.
This week marks St. Maria Goretti’s memorial day, so be sure and read up about her. At my local parish, St Francis Xavier, we’re gearing up for our annual picnic. Since I work weekends, I’m hoping to run by this week and lend a hand with setting up.
