By Dianna Kennedy 2 Comments

Are you busy planning some great birthday parties for the children in your house? We’re gearing up for the birthday party season here at the Kennedy Compound, creating a perfect birthday cake has been on my mind.

A few weeks ago, I shared some ideas for birthday party cakes for girls, boys, and even grownups. Today, I’m showing you more delicious and beautiful cakes you can create in your own kitchen. (If you’re stumped for birthday party themes, start here for inspiration.)

Take a look at some of the fantastic birthday party cake and cupcake ideas I found! {Let the drooling begin!}

animal themed cake ideas

Animal Themed Birthday Cakes

Planning a safari or circus party? Even craft challenged mommas can create this sweet lion cake.

For a woodland or camping party, these owl cupcakes are easy!

If you’re having a Rainbow Fish, under the sea or even a mermaid themed party, these little fishy cupcakes are completely cute.

Tip — did you know you can order M&Ms in colors specific to your party? Hooray!

First Birthday Party Cake Ideas

One of my favorite themes for a first birthday is a farm or Old MacDonald theme. I think this farm cake, decorated with animal cupcakes is precious.

I completely adore cupcakes for kids’ birthday parties. They’re fun, quick and easy to serve, and no one argues about who’s getting the bigger piece.

I LOVE these Sesame Street cupcakes. I may have to invest in a leaf tip to make our own Big Bird cupcakes soon.

DIY Elmo Cake

So, what happens if your child wants a Elmo cake, and you can’t find your favorite Elmo cake pan?

Take a look at how this mom created her Elmo cake without a molded cake pan. (Super cool, but I’m not that dedicated. Gotta keep it real, y’all.)

doll cakes for girls

Birthday Party Cake Ideas for Girls

Remember the doll cakes we all had when we were young? I’m thinking about making one for one of my daughters, for nostalgia sake. I love the idea of this easy fondant covered princess doll cake. With a step by step tutorial, I think I can do it.

Another twist on the fondant covered doll cake? This Belle cake is stunning. It’s perfect for the girl who claims Belle as her favorite Disney princess.

minion cupcakes

Birthday Cakes for Boys

Got boys who love the Minions from Despicable Me? These Despicable Me cupcakes look like a sure winner for your party. Raid your pantry for Twinkies and you’re all set.

My kids LOVE watching this video tutorial from Ro at Nerdy Nummies for her version of Minion Cupcakes.

What birthday cake idea will you try first? Be sure and chat me up in the comments.
