Saints and Scripture Sunday: Surviving the Storm

Saints and Scripture Sunday

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
1 Peter 5:7

I’ve lived in Kentucky all of my life. In the spring, tornado warnings are commonplace. You learn to pay attention to weather reports, and take cover. I’m afraid of bad storms, but since I’ve gotten older, I’ve learned that panicking is NOT helpful.

On Friday, we survived an onslaught of storms that even attracted professional storm chasers to town. Since we had a few hours warning, there was time to prepare. The boys were oblivious, playing outside. Brett and I kept busy, cleaning the garage so that BOTH vehicles would fit inside.

As the sirens sounded the alarms, we headed inside and downstairs. Rachel was with my best friend, on the road to her parent’s house a few hours away. We checked in with them, and all was well. Brett made me cry, telling Laura to raise Rachel in our Catholic faith, if anything should happen to us. (that did nothing to ease my mind, of course)

hailstorm

We were only pelted with hail and severe winds in our area. About an hour away in Indiana, towns were devastated. We’re definitely counting our blessings — I’m just happy everyone in my family is safe.

I am so glad to hear that your family is okay! I’ve been praying much for all those affected by the storms.

It was pretty harrowing … AND we’re not even in ‘official’ tornado season at the moment.
Angie and I were talking — and when you grow up around here, we hear threats of poor weather so often, you almost get immune — I’m thrilled my husband was home, and took charge.

I’ve experienced a few scary times with tornadoes… The worst in Kansas. Praise God you are all fine and praying for those who experienced devastation.

I’ve lived here all my life — and I’m very thankful that we’ve never suffered any ill effects. It’s scary as heck. I used to think I’d never live on the coast, because of hurricanes — at least with those storms, you get PLENTY of advance notice. With tornadoes, they can pop up in an instant.

It’s scary — and part of the problem is that if you’ve been in this area long, you tend to get immune to it. About the time that happens, we get whacked with bad storms, and sometimes folks don’t take the warnings seriously.

      Yuck!

I’m glad Brett was home and took charge — it made it a bit less stressful for me.

Praise God that you and your family are fine! How frightening that must have been to have your one daughter an hour away…knowing she was in loving hands must have helped.

Phew — I missed her, but she’s pretty skittish of storms, so I’m glad she wasn’t there. She would have been a nervous wreck, I’m afraid. She and my best friend missed all the action, thankfully!

I am glad you are all ok. I had two sons in the areas of tornadoes and they are ok too. I live in hurricane country and we have lots more warning. God bless!

Glad you guys are okay! We didn’t get anything too bad by us except hail. I am devastated for the people in Indiana, Eastern KY and Northern KY. And my heart is broken for that little girl (who was originally the lone survivor in her family). I just heard on the news that she died, too.

I’m so thankful my family was okay and it passed by us. At the same time, my heart is so heavy for those who were not so lucky!

And it is not even tornado season! We have a long spring ahead of us, I think!

So glad you’re all okay! We’re in VA and missed the worst of the nastiness…but we have our fair share of tornado watches/warnings too, and they scare me half to death. Praying for those that were in the line of the storms this time.

Glad to hear that your whole family was safe. That would be unnerving to have one of my children on the road with another family. Praise God for His goodness to you and your trust in Him.
    Blessings,

I’m so glad you’re all ok! Tornadoes are SO scary anyway, but to have them be as violent as they were near you is even worse!

So grateful that all is well with you and yours. These moments of uncertainty stir the deep well, don’t they? Praying for all who lost in the storms. So devastating.

I’m glad to hear you’re all safe too. I don’t like big storms either, but I try to stay calm so that the kids will stay calm. We have had bad enough ones here that we’ve had to get the kids out of bed after midnight to take them to a safe place to wait it out. They tend to get a bit panicky now. We have much to be thankful for.

I’m glad you survived the storms. I lived in Oklahoma when I was a teenager and I remember those tornado warnings. The worst storm we had while living there was 100 mile an hour straight wind. On that occasion we went into our neighbor’s basement. I think storms in that area are getting worse and more frequent than they were years ago. Maybe we just hear more about them.
    Thank you for sharing.
    Blessings,
    Charlotte
