My husband does not receive gifts well. He doesn’t want us to make a big fuss over his birthday, Christmas or even Father’s Day.

I like to surprise him by picking up gifts that are practical, but that he’d never take the time to buy for himself.

For a Father’s Day gift, I was looking for a cheap wireless plan for my husband. In his job as a real estate agent and appraiser, a cell phone with an unlimited plan would be awesome, but out of our budget.

After searching high and low for the lowest price rate plan with coverage in our area, I found Walmart Family Mobile. Up until now, Brett had been using a pre-paid plan with Tracfone, which didn’t allow for a data plan.

In his career, he needs solid cell coverage, as he’s traveling all over the city. He needs to be able to check email on the fly, to set up real estate showings and closings quickly. Missing a call, email or text could equal losing hundreds of dollars.

As parents of a big family, I’m always aware of ways to cut costs out of our daily budget. A smart phone for Brett seemed like a luxury, until I was able to check out the options from Walmart Family Mobile.

We received the T-Mobile MyTouch phone to experience. Brett immediately commented on how light it was, but the screen was big enough to accommodate texting. (guys have larger fingers, you know!)

Using the Android platform, it was a snap to set up with his Google account, bringing in all of his email and phone contacts in a snap. You can even manage your account information easily online.

We hopped in the car and headed up to Walmart to get the phone activated. (don’t miss our shopping trip details over on Google+)

I’m looking forward to seeing how the Walmart Family Mobile plan works for our family. I’m thrilled that unlimited talk and texting will only cost us $40 per month, which includes 1GB of Web access at 3G speeds. (A one time $25 activation fee applies.) If we choose, it’s easy to add up to five family members on the plan.
