went to the doctor today ….
Bad news when we arrived … they were going to be ‘running late’. Marvy!! Brett hates going to the doctor, so I tend to be a bit more sensitive to wait time when he is with me. He wanted to leave, and re-schedule …. I was slated to have an U/S, so, I balked at leaving. BOY, am I glad I sat tight.

We went ahead and had my U/S ….. I’ve had a few cervical surgeries, which puts me at risk for incompetent cervix. They check me early on in pregnancy, to get a baseline.

We go back .. I decided that didn’t really like the U/S tech …. she was very perfunctory, and not a whole lot of ‘warm fuzziness’ exuding from her! I asked her, while she was there, if she would take a peep at the baby. (why not, we’re going to be waiting here forever …. might as well have something pleasant to reflect on)

She said … sure …. and starts taking shots of the baby. I glanced over, just to check the heartbeat, etc, and I was fine. She says, “has this baby been scanned before?” I said, “no, this is my first u/s this pregnancy”. She then said, “well … I’m about ready to rock your world, momma. You have two babies in here.” I started crying, immediately. She scanned the babies, checked them all out, told us they looked fine, and ushered us back out into the waiting room.

I was STUNNED!! I had no idea …. I kept looking at the pictures of the babies, and looking at myself. How in the WORLD could I have 2 babies??!!! I alternated (no kidding) between laughing and crying. Brett was stunned as well …. we opted not to start calling people in the waiting room. We started talking about all the things we needed to do, instead!!

When we finally saw the doctor ( 2 hours later!!!) …. she did NOT put my mind at ease!! Dr A was TOTALLY “Dr Gloom and Doom”, and I will be supremely disappointed if she is on call when I go into labor. She be-bopped into the room, and proceeded to tell me all the things I was NOW at high risk for …. pre-term labor, pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes, etc. She also told me I couldn’t exercise, I was going to have to cut back at work, and I needed to wean Rachel. She also mentioned scheduling my labor, which I was NOT happy about!!! At the end, she says, “twins are wonderful!” (since she has twins)
