With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and prayer for all the saints
While the rest of the world celebrates Halloween, the Church prepares to pay homage to our Saints, both known and unknown, during All Saints Day. This is a perfect time to research your favorite saint, or look up someone new. Some traditions for commemorating our beloved Saints include visiting cemeteries (respectfully), or giving Soul Cakes to the poor.
We celebrate Halloween in our home, but more in a fall festival style .. we visit family and friends, go trick or treating, as well as the occasional pumpkin patch. How about you? Do you dress your children up as Saints,or go the more worldly route? Join in and share your thoughts.

Dianna, thanks for the wonderful reminder of what today means for the church. We are celebrating in a worldly fashion but maybe one of these years we’ll try more of a fusion!

I wanted to dress Andrew up as a saint, but I couldn’t complete with Optimus Prime (transformer character)! Oh, well, maybe next year!
We do more of a “fall festival” thing, rather than actually celebrate Halloween but we do go trick-or-treating. I personally don’t like it but didn’t want to disappoint my son, so we went.

We do the worldly thing in our own way. Trick or treating. Pumpkins. And a Halloween movie every day of October. Nothing R rated. I just can’t handle those anymore and my kids don’t watch R rated. About half of them are more childlike (Monsters, Inc; Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown; Nightmare Before Christmas).
Our local church also holds an annual fall festival in place of a Halloween themed party. The people in our neighbohood being the fruits of their labors to display and/or share. This can be anything from produce from the garden to hats they have been knitting. We share a meal which usually includes something from one or more of our friends’ gardens. It’s a great activity.
I really like the idea of visiting the cemetary. Most of my family is buried about five minutes away. Thanks for the idea.

We are a christian family, and participate in Halloween every year. We trick or treat and visit family as well. This topic seemed to be of some controversy this year among fellow church goers. It’s fun, we dress up, and who doesn’t love some family, friends, and candy. I recently posted some pics of our night in the neighborhood. http://bit.ly/9I0q8c
