My Family’s Sorrow: Saints and Scripture Sunday

by Dianna Kennedy on September 25, 2010

Saints and Scripture Sunday

He heals the broken hearted, and binds up their wounds.

Proverbs 147:3

On Tuesday, I held a perfect newborn baby.

Perfectly formed, yet perfectly lifeless.

infant loss, stillborn, miscarriage, grief

On Tuesday, my sister lost a son, my mother lost a grandson, and I lost a nephew.

The sadness in my family is raw and palpable.

I want to be angry, but for some reason, I can’t even make it that far. Praying is difficult, because I can’t even find the words. My go-to Rosary fails me, since the only thoughts that come to my mind are, “Help them, Mary. Protect my sister and my mother. Wrap them in your mantle, and love them.”

Our Lady of Sorrows, Mary crying

This is a perfect time for me to revisit the Chaplet of the Seven Sorrows. This devotion meditates on the seven sorrows of Our Lady, beginning with the prophecy of Simeon, and ending with the death of Our Lord.

Please continue to keep my family in your thoughts and prayers – it’s been a rough week around here.

He is beautiful and my heart is broken for every one of you. There is just no sense to be made of it. I simply can’t imagine the pain.

I wish I could hug you, cry with you and stay up all night with you so you could tell me all about them.

Thinking of you, your sister, your mom—your whole family and that sweet little angel.

Love to you, D.

Girl, you know I love you — we could stay up all night talking, and crying, about so many things ….

Thank you so much.

I am so sorry for the loss of your nephew. Praying for your sister, mother and the whole family as you all grieve. God bless you.

(P.S. I’m sorry I haven’t been able to link up to Saints and Scripture Sunday the last couple of weeks. Hoping to get back on the blogging track this week.)

Carol — it’s been hard, and I’m always amazed at when grief hits me — like when I’m watching my children play. I’m reminded of a tiny one who won’t get to know his brother, or cousins, and I’m brought to tears yet again.

No need for apologies — you know the door is always open for you here, and for friends you may bring along! Hope to see you here soon!

Thank you so much, Cheryl. It’s been rough — we’ve made it through the initial shock and loss, but I’ll be keeping an eye on my sister, and lifting her up in prayer, for a long, long time.

Dianna, what a horrible thing to live through. I am sure your heart is breaking for your sister, while you try to deal with your own sense of loss and that of your mom’s, too. You don’t have to remember the words to the “perfect prayer”…He understands and hears even your moans and cries. He understands the loss of a son.

You will be in my heart and in my prayers, sweet one.

Heather — it’s been rough, rough, rough. My heart aches for my sister, and my mother. Thank you so much for your beautiful words.

I’m appreciative of everyone who has lifted us up in prayer — it’s a powerful feeling, to know, and to FEEL other people storming Heaven on your behalf.
