Freezer Cooking Friday: A Trip to Angie’s House

by Dianna Kennedy on June 25, 2010

I’ve been a fan of freezer cooking for some time, following once a month cooking blogs, saving recipes, and attempting to meal plan. Slowly, I’ve been trying to plan ahead, doubling recipes, and freezing things along the way as I cook. (which, as we all know, isn’t that often)

I started simple, with a breakfast menu item, since I usually get in a rut there. Fruity Breakfast Burritos scored a 7 out of 10. I think they are a great idea, but I can never remember to get them out in time to thaw them, and zapping them in the microwave doesn’t appeal to me.

This week, Angie and I got together at her house for our first freezer cooking session. Abby joined us to help out, by putting together pizzas and muffins. By all accounts, it was a success: we had fun, stocked our freezers, and got caught up on girl time.

We tried to stick to some tried and true recipes: things that we’ve tried and had success, since both of our families can have some picky eaters.

Here’s what I brought back home with me:

Homemade Pizzas

Easy Breakfast Pies

Pineapple Muffins

Chicken Burritos

Tortilla Soup

Meatloaf

We’re planning on another session in July, so we’d love to hear feedback. Do you have favorite meals you freeze? Any freezing disasters? Any tips you’d like to share, or questions you’d like answered? Don’t be shy! Leave a comment, and I’ll get back to you.
