Candy Confessions: Multiples and More Question of the Week

by Dianna Kennedy on November 3, 2009

One of my favorite twin blogs, Multiples and More, hosts a Question of the Week, for us mothers of multiples. This week’s question:
What is your policy on giving kids candy? What age do you think it is appropriate?

And.. be honest.. do you eat your kids Halloween candy?:)

This makes a great ‘jump’ off point for our Halloween wrap-up post. When I was a kid, we had a Halloween party at school, and then we went Trick or Treating. Nowdays, this Halloween thing has turned into a month long event.
Rachel participated in the following Halloween Events:
Trick or Treating at the Zoo
Trunk or Treat at my Granny’s Church
Halloween Party at Mother’s Day Out
Halloween Party with a girlfriend
Making Halloween Cupcakes

Jack O Lantern Stroll at Bellarmine University

and finally, Trick or Treating on Halloween Night! Phew! The boys were able to participate in 4 of those events as well …. so PLENTY of candy around here!!
My ‘policy’ is no more than ONE piece (well, maybe TWO for Rachel) a day, and only after she’s eaten a reasonable amount of healthy food. She’d gorge herself all day on sweets if I’d let her. The boys are only allowed the rare piece of candy …. they don’t eat that well anyway, and I really don’t want a chocolate mess on my hands. Age for eating candy? I think Rachel was well over a year old, and this is really the first time the boys have had candy as well.
Do I eat their candy?? Do bears hibernate?? You’d better believe I do — just ask Abby. She’s been known to take her stash to her father’s, so as to avoid sharing with me. I just think my take on the candy haul is fair payment for me buying costumes, driving children to events, etc.
Head over to Multiples and More for candy stories galore!!
