For some reason, I missed my Body After Babies post last week, but it actually works out OK. I was ahead of Samantha, somehow.
Question this week is: How do you stay motivated?
My desire to go to the gym ebbs and flows, as is to be expected. There are some days that I cannot wait to get there, and other days that I have to force myself to go. The end result is the same: I feel better after I go.
I have a variety of motivating factors that are keeping me going:
My husband: he’s a huge influence on eating better, taking care of myself, and exercising. Plus, when I go to the gym, it motivates him to go. It’s a very symbiotic relationship there.
My children: I want to set a good example for my children, to eat healthy, and take care of themselves, especially Abby at this age. I have to be a positive role model – can’t very well sit on the couch and eat doughnuts.
Feeling better about myself: After the boys were born, I felt weak, and worn out, and just ‘old and busted’! Working out makes me stronger …. I can lug the boys around now, and last night, I carried box up the stairs, over my head. Brett laughed at me, and asked me if I were going to start carrying things on my head like women in Africa.
Better demeanor: When I go to the gym, I’m usually in better spirits — much less likely to snap at the children, or my husband. I’m also a bit more motivated to get things accomplished …. cleaning, organizing, etc.
Treating myself: I listened to a podcast the other day that talked about rewarding yourself when you meet fitness goals. Food probably is not a good choice, but I’ve been known to stop by Starbucks for a treat. (yes, I know — ZERO nutritional value) This week, did a little retail therapy as a reward.
Better life: By working out, I hope to age gracefully, as well as in a healthy manner. My skin is looking better, already, and Brett keeps telling me how good I look. That’s ALWAYS a plus.
Head over to Samantha’s, and support all the gals there who are working hard to change their lives for the better!
