Writer’s Workshop .. an apology to my sweet husband

by Dianna Kennedy on May 28, 2009

It’s time, once again, for Writer’s Workshop. I love this …. since it usually gets me thinking.
The Prompts:
1.) What is your life’s anthem? You know…that song that is ALWAYS in your head. The one you’d go to sing first if someone told you to sing a song right NOW. What is it and what does it mean to you?
2.) We love telemarketers don’t we!?! Describe a memorable experience you had with one.
3.) How much does focusing on weight affect your daily life?
Well …. having a teenage daughter, I try not to focus on weight as a number too much. I’m trying to portray the importance of having a good body image, being overall healthy, etc.
I’m back down to my pre-pregnancy weight (how?? Try breastfeeding twins …. you won’t have time to eat), thank goodness, and am back in all my regular clothes. Gone are the maternity clothes, and the ‘not maternity, but bigger than my regular stuff’. Maternity clothes are packed away for another future Kennedy, and the ‘too big’ stuff, I gave away.
I’d like to be healthier … overall. I am NOT eating well, and I need to work on that. I’m severely lacking in the exercise department, and that’s going to be a challenge for me, with all the small fry. I’m going to join in the Body after Baby challenge, with Samantha, and I hope this will keep me accountable/motivated. Abby and I are going to start playing tennis again, which is something I am looking forward to as well.
4.) Describe in what ways you expect too much from your significant other. Do they deserve an apology?
I expect Brett to place the same importance on things as I do, and a lot of times, if he doesn’t do things my way, I get upset.
Example …. my husband is very laid back, which I love about him, except when it comes to certain parenting realms. Since I’ve increased my family size to 6, I’m now a firm believer in a schedule of sorts, for the children. I can’t be eating dinner at 8pm, then staying up until 11pm, getting all the children in bed. I’d like to get everyone down at a reasonable hour, so that I can have some time with Brett, as well as time to myself. (and not at 0400) I’m sure that my husband would agree with me that we should find a better way handle things around here, if I discussed it with him reasonably.
For those of you wondering ….. this is how NOT to ask your husband for help. “OH.MY.GOD! IF I HAVE TO STAY UP UNTIL MIDNIGHT ONE MORE NIGHT PUTTING ALL THESE CHILDREN TO BED, I AM GOING TO SHOOT MYSELF ….. NO, I THINK I WILL JUST LEAVE, AND LET YOU HANDLE IT.” Keep in mind, this was in classic, full blown Dianna fit mode. Nice. Yes, I’m sure all husbands would come running to help, if we all acted like raving lunatics.
So, Brett, I am very sorry for being so childish and disrespectful. Operating on CSD (Chronic Sleep Deprivation), as well as OTS (Over Touched Syndrome) makes me a butthole.
I do need help from you in getting a schedule that works for our house, and I need to talk to you calmly about it, ASAP.
5.) List ten things that make you HAPPY.

in no particular order:
my husband
my children
coffee
sunshine
getting little gifts for no particular reason
playing tennis
quiet time in the house
getting anywhere on time, but especially to church
clean sheets on the bed
a decent night’s sleep
6.) Share a sleep walking story of your own!!
Join in the fun, at Mama Kat’s Losin It! While you are there, be sure and congratulate her on her guest speaking spot!!
